Former Arsenal and Manchester City star Emmanuel Adebayor has refused to donate to his home country Togo’s war against Coronavirus.

Adebayor has faced criticism after he rejected the chance to help health services in his native Togo in the battle against the virus.

The backlash comes after his fellow African footballers including Victor Wanyama and Samuel Eto’o stepped up to help their countries fight against COVID-19.

In an interview with Goal,  football star Emmanuel Adebayor lashed out at everyone who was criticising him for not donating to his country towards the fight against Coronavirus.

“I’m sorry that people compare me to Eto’o and Drogba by asking why I don’t have a foundation or donate, as if I brought coronavirus to Togo. A word of advice for the guys regarding donations, I won’t do that. Everything is clear and simple. Thank you and good day.”

AEmmanuel Adebayor has a net worth just over ’41 million.

For those of you who say I don’t donate, let me be very clear, I don’t donate. It is very simple,’ he said. ‘I do what I want and eat what I want. Later, there will be people who will criticise me for the fact that I did not make a donation in Lome,” he said in a live video on his official Facebook page on Thursday.

Given the huge charitable work Adebayor has committed to his homeland in the past, that decision left many shocked. It’s a feeling that has been evoked on numerous occasions throughout the striker’s career.

Adebaboy has been shocking his fans lately. From that infamous celebration against old club Arsenal, to claiming his mother to be a witch.
