COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been re-elected for the fifth term unopposed in an election boycotted by his main challenger Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) secretary-general Seth Panyako.
The exercise was conducted by delegates at the Tom Mboya Labour college, Kisumu County which will now see him serve for another term.
“I promise to service you with all my might and strength and not betray the trust you have bestowed in me,” read part of the statement.
Also, 33 other officials of the union were elected unchallenged.The two contestants Atwoli and Panyako had previously engaged in a fight over the seat.
The nurses union boss, who was also eyeing the seat, accused Atwoli of using unorthodox means to retain the seat.
