The Council of Governors (CoG) has expressed dissatisfaction with Senators’ handling of Wajir Governor Mohamed Mohamud Abdi’s impeachment.

In a statement to the media on Wednesday, May 19, chairman Martin Wambora claimed the process violated the law, claiming the Senate failed to conduct an investigation as required by Section 33 (4) of the County Governments Act.

“Notably, the allegation that was upheld against the Governor was not substantiated. The Senate has lowered the threshold for impeachment of a Governor and this largely exposes the Counties to political upheavals,” Wambora said.

The council also termed the ouster as a political witch hunt, saying it should not be allowed because it disrupts government.

Wambora went on to say that a meeting has been set for Friday, May 21, 2021, to deliberate and discuss the matter, and that a statement will be issued later.
