On Tuesday, 20 October, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i launched the first Huduma Card and presented it to President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta at the Mashujaa Day Celebrations.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was the first person to receive the eagerly awaited Huduma Card.
The Interior CS also noted that the process of integrating public personal data in such a way that every Kenyan receives a single source of identity is complete.
The President stated that the Huduma Namba focused on easing the means by which all Kenyans access government services.
“We are now ready to start issuing Huduma Cards to all Kenyans so that they can get the services online with no queues,” stated Uhuru.
Initially, there were claims that the Huduma Namba Cards would be released in May 2020 but the coronavirus epidemic disrupted the plans in March.
CS Fred Matiang’i in a previous interview had noted that the details of the individual, including the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) number and their Personal Identification Number ( PIN) number, will be included in that number.
“The registration was the first step, then the syncronisation of the data sets before we give you that one number. We make sure that every person has got a file that is complete. Your NHIF details are there, your pin details are there, then we give you the number,” Matiang’i stated.
