Seems like the game between healthcare workers and the government is set to continue. This is after a fresh strike notice was issued over poor pay and tumbledown health facilities.
According to the the acting secretary of Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU), the union resolved to consult and mobilise for the strike if the challenges remain unresolved.
This was more likely prompted by the recent withdrawal of COVID-19 allowances with the government yet to fully implement the 2017-2021 Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA).
“Because of persistent failure and lacklustre approach to address the Human Resource for Health sector and worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic, KMPDU has resolved to consult and mobilise its members for industrial action if the challenges remain unresolved,” said Chibanzi Mwachonda.
He also highlighted some counties which still have not paid healthcare workers for the last three months.
