Former president of Kenya Daniel Arap Moi

Daniel Arap Moi was  born on 2 September 1924 in Baringo district in the expansive rift valley. He lost his father at a tender age and he was brought up Single-handedly by his mother.

At the age of ten Moi joined the African inland mission school before joining Sacho high school. Born Toroitich Arap Moi, he took the name Daniel after being baptized at the mission school, he enrolled at a teachers college and later became a teacher in Kabarnet where he rose to the level of headmaster.

Moi later joined politics forming coalition with Ronald Ngala, with his growing political influence he joined LEGCO and later elected after two years, he became the vice president of Kenya and rose to presidency from 1978 to 2002 as a result of the death of the then president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. Through popular agitation and external pressures, he was forced to allow multiparty elections in 1991; he led his party, KANU to victory in the 1992 and 1997 elections.e is known as the  longest serving president being in power for more than 20 years and later descended out of power with his party KANU being defeated by Mwai kibaki having a backing from the famous alliance of  the rainbow coalition.

On February 4th 2020 the president of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta gave a presidential proclamation announcing the death of former president moi who’s has been at the helm of illness for for quite sometime.

The Nyayo leader died in Nairobi hospital at 5:20Am. Remembered for many thing that he did and achieved during his tenure as the president of Kenya. Moi has left behind seven children with his son Gideon following on his political steps flying high the KANU flag.
