The dam in Karen where a 10-year-old drowned

On Tuesday, January 5, Suluman Mango Owino shared the pain of losing his 10-year-old class two pupil who drowned in Karen, Nairobi.

Owino stated that he was shocked after his son’s body was found at the dam. He reported the incident at Karen Police Station on Wednesday, December 30, the same day his son, Barrack Obama Mango, passed away.

He said Obama had accompanied two of his friends to collect firewood in Ngong Forest at around 11 am when he drowned after falling into a dam in the forest.

“I am at City Mortuary today and I brought my wife all the way from Siaya County. She could not believe the news. The police have not yet followed up on the issue despite the property being owned by the government. I don’t know whether I should sue the government or not. That is a case I will follow up after we bury him upcountry,” he stated.

Owino wondered why the dam was left unguarded since the area was often used by local residents.
