Foreign Nationals Arrested For Being In Possession Of Fake Currency

43 year old Jamil Salman Abdul and his counterpart 30 year old Tefsawork Ermias Dogso were arrested on Monday in Nyali, Mombasa for being in possession of fake currency.

The two foreign nationals were found with bundles of the fake currency following an intelligence led operation by the DCI’s Transnational Organised Crime Unit detectives.

They were also found operating within the country illegally.

The car in which they were in transit with, Nissan Note of registration plate KDA 505Y was intercepted with the two as the occupants.

A khaki envelope bearing 198 forged Euro notes in 100 denomination was recovered after a search was conducted. The envelope was hidden, sandwiched between the driver’s and the co-driver’s seats.

All the recovered notes bore similar serial numbers- BCE ECB EZB EKT EKP 2002 and more are believed to have been used to defraud unsuspecting Kenyans who want to posses foreign currency.

The exhibits have been secured pending production in court when the duo will be charged with Conspiracy to Defraud and Operating illegally within the country as interrogation on the suspects continue to unearth more that is still unknown.
