Headteacher Collapses And Dies Outside School Gate

A school headteacher in Kakamega County collapsed and died on Tuesday morning, December 1, while reporting to duty.

The deceased was identified as Allan Muchikha, the headteacher of Chirobaini Primary School in Shinyalu Constituency.  The 38-year-old is reported to have fallen down just outside the school’s main gate.

Robert Makau, Shinyalu OCPD confirmed the incident. It remains unclear what caused the death of Machikha. Police collected his body, took it to a morgue at Shinyalu hospital awaiting a postmortem examination.

This case comes amidst a backdrop of deaths within the education sector due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) reported that as of 25 November, 33 teachers had succumbed to the virus.

The Commission also confirmed that at least one teacher died every month between June and August, raising the number of teachers lost during the pandemic to 36.
