Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko plans to counter President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s plans for the Nairobi Gubernatorial by-election following his impeachment on Thursday, 17 December.
Sources claim that Sonko is gathering his support base to support an opposition candidate, a specific one that will be endorsed by Deputy President William Ruto.
“We are strong and we are ready for the by-election,” Sonko said in videos posted on his social media pages.
Sonko began his campaign in Starehe Constituency on Sunday, December 20, and said that he would visit 15 other constituencies to mobilize his support. He also began a food drive initiative to help the needy during the Christmas holidays.
Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, former Starehe MP, announced that she would contest for any position that DP Ruto would front her.
“I work with Ruto, so I will vie with the Hustler Nation team. We work with what wananchi say. The people have decided it’s me and it is up to them to decide the ticket I will use,” stated Margaret Wanjiru.
