Former Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro has officially been sworn in as the new Governor. Nyoro becomes the third person to occupy that office after his former boss Fedinard Waititu was impeached by the senate.

The Senate successfully voted to remove Mr. Waititu on Wednesday night over claims of abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.

It’s important to remember that Nyoro was and still is a fears critic of former governor Waititu. They’ve previously been seen exchanging words publicly and calling each other names.

Waititu’s impeachment took the senate two days to clear! The charges brought against him among them misappropriation of funds saw a heated debate that openly displayed political differences affiliated to the Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke factions.

Majority of the senators voted for the motion seeking to validate his impeachment by Kiambu County Assembly, despite concerns on whether it met the legal threshold from a section of legislators.

After the impeachment, Waititu moved to court Friday seeking to stop Nyoro’s swearing-in that was scheduled for Friday, January 31, but High Court judge Weldon Korir declined to stop the process.

The swearing-in was presided over by justice John Onyiego at the Kiambu County Headquarters.

The event was graced by seasoned politicians and the Chief Magistrate Patricia Gichohi.
