Kenya Defence Forces men killed five al-shabaab terrorists after being ambushed on Monday 21 September in Alungu, Lafey Mandera county.

The incident is reported to have happened at 6.45 am. According to the witnesses, the gunfire shots lasted for about 30 minutes leaving five terrorists dead.

However, some KDF soldiers are reported to have sustained injuries. Unconfirmed reports also indicate one soldier was killed in the ambush.

The counter-Terrorism and National Security Intelligence, reported that the death toll of militants has risen to five after a body was later found in a nearby bush.

“KDF counter-terrorism operations following today’s incident in Alungu Lafey NEP Kenya. Fouir terrorist who are members of the Al-Qaeda affiliate shabaab al-Mujahideen have been killed and their assault rifles recovered by army troops. Fifth body of Al-shabaab Terrorism operations today…,” read a statement.

It is said the convoy was heading to a local airstrip when the surprise attack from al-shabaab happened.
