Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a notice to motorists using the Lunga Lunga-Ukunda road.

The authority reported that a section of the highway, at the Marenje area, had been flooded due to ongoing rains being experienced in various parts of the country.

“The section of the road is temporarily impassable. This has been occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains and construction works for a new box culvert,” KeNHA warned.

The 460-kilometre road is a busy highway connecting Kenya and Tanzania at the Lunga Lunga border.

Motorists are advised to be cautious and use alternative routes, like Vanga-Shimoni Road.

Several road users said they got stranded on the road due to the flooding in the section.

According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is currently expected to continue in western, central (including Nairobi), north-eastern, north-western and coastal regions of Kenya.
