On Tuesday, November 17, a Missouri court  found Fidelina Mwelu Mutisya guilty for her role in a marriage fraud conspiracy.

The marriage in question took place on Friday, 22 June 2007, as Fidelina sought permanent residency in the United States.

The 61-year-old from Winchester, Ohio, revealed that she had engaged in a plot to marry a U.S. national in order to bypass federal immigration laws.

Her engagement was organized by Delmar Dixon of Kansas City, Missouri, who was also found guilty and convicted in a different but related case.

Dixon was sentenced to three years in federal prison without parole in July 2017.

Fidelina was also found to have paid her spouse Ksh 100,000 for the wedding and then decided to part with Ksh 10,000 a month before the immigration process was completed.

She faces deportation under federal law, having committed several deportable crimes, including the offense for which she pleaded guilty.
