A 60-year-old Kenyan national, Mansur Mohamed Surur, will receive a criminal trial in the United States after he lost a case on Friday, December 18, 2020, seeking to block the government from extraditing him.

Martha Muthuku, Milimani Law Court Chief Margistrate, ruled that the case brought against the accused by the US government had merit and that Noordin Haji, the Director of Public Prosecution, had provided evidence to prove that Mansur was a fugitive.

Mohamed is said to be a poaching kingpin and is wanted by the US on multiple accounts of wildlife trafficking involving indigenous animals.

Justice Muthuku ordered that Mansur be handed over to the US government in 15 days.

Mansur will be tried in the US on five charges of criminal activity, including illegal trade in Ivory and money laundering.

He was charged with illegal poaching of more than 35 rhinos and over 100 elephants, both protected species, worth more than Ksh.700 million.
