Kenyans will have to bench some Christmas activities this year following the latest guidelines set by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development CS Betty Maina, revealed that the Bar and Alcohol Trade Associations is required to form a “Bar Kumi” initiative.

The initiative will assist in monitoring whether businesses selling alcohol comply with the set guidelines.

“Those looking for a colorful festive period should understand the difficult period the entire world is facing and shelve their plans for another time. Government, media, businesses and the public should redouble their efforts to promote safety precautions because there will be a natural tendency towards complacency,” she stated.

Party goers will have a different festive holiday as they can no longer go to the dance floor or sit by the counter

Bars will also be expected to post signs to indicate that a maximum number of drinkers has been achieved on the premises.

A variety of other precautions were also imposed by the Government, including a Covid-19 liaison officer who should be present at the entertainment premises to restrict the number of revelers in a bar and ensure Covid-19 hygiene guidelines are followed.
