On a post that was recently done by Khaligraph Jones aka The OG, he narrated an encounter with racism in Nairobi when he went house hunting within some leafy suburbs.
Guess what, he was not allowed to rent a house on the basis of his race. Hapa tu Nairobi. Phew!
The revelation sparked a hot discussion online as netizens talked of their experience with racism in places like Westlands, Parklands and Lang’ata.
In Khaligraph’s post he said, “Last year I went to Lang’ata to inquire about some Nice houses I had seen on the Internet, after getting there we were prevented from Entering the Estate cause we were told we aren’t Indians, apparently only Indians can own property in That Area, Niljua Ni mazishi Nikarudi Kayole polepole. The OG was not respected”
Fans also had their own stories to share on how bad racism was in those parts of Nairobi. Too ugly, that Kenyan kids living in those areas were not allowed to play outside with the other kids.
Another fan shared a comment saying he also went house hunting and was told that it could only be bought by an Asian. Even if you were a black Asian you wouldn’t be given the house.
What surprised most people was the fact that this was happening within our borders and in our land. It has happened for so long and no one came out to speak about it. Fans were happy that Khaligraph had the bravery to speak about the issue.
