In an effort to contain the sudden increase of Covid-19 cases in the country, the Covid-19 National Emergency Response Committee (NERC) has pointed out five counties to a possible lockdown.

The government is planning on the possibility of locking down Nairobi and Mombasa among other affected counties.

The five counties include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kericho, Nakuru and Turkana, which have been classified as the Covid-19 hotspots.

A decision on whether to lock down the five counties is set to be made on Thursday, October 22, after the Covid-19 NERC meeting.

The Committee also met on Sunday with Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, who chaired the meeting to address the new measures to be imposed to avoid a second phase of the virus.

Kakamega governor, Wycliffe Oparanya asked the government to punish politicians conducting public meetings that have been described as a weak link in the battle against the virus.
