A matatu tout roughed up two Royal Media Services (RMS) members after they complained of the vehicle carrying excess passengers.
Alice Sanya and Mercy Kiplamai boarded the matatu from Prestige Mall to Ngong Resource before the incident occured.
“We sat two people each as required but after getting to Adams, the conductor insisted on carrying three passengers each. I and my colleague disagreed with the conductor. He refunded my colleague’s fare and then asked us to alight,” Sanya explained.
Sanya added that she was ordered to alight from the vehicle with her luggage thrown out. She had not yet paid her fare and was asked not to.
The driver joined in confronting the two women and when Sanya tried to take a photo of the matatu number plate, they beat her up.
“They twisted my arm and smashed my phone insisting that I cannot take a photo of the number plate, luckily my colleague took a video of them insulting me,” she added.
The matter has since been reported to the Kilimani Police Station.
