Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has claimed legislators in the National Assembly were bribed with KSh 100,000 each to vote for the 2020 Constitutional Amendment Bill.

The vocal Tanga Tanga lawmaker who opposed the BBI Bill on the floor of the House alleged the MPs who endorsed the document were paid by a senior parliamentary leader whom he did not reveal the identity.

“MPs voting yes currently receiving their KSh 100,000 from the office of a senior parliamentary leader,” he posted.

A total of 247 legislators were physically present inside the National Assembly, while 55  others had not turned up but rather registered for the virtual voting during the second reading.

The BBI bill proposes to expand the executive, create an extra 70 constituencies and devolve more funds to the ward level.

The document is an initiative of President Uhuru Kenyatta and former prime minister Raila Odinga who ceased hostilities through a famous handshake in March 2018.
