Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s People Empowerment Party (PEP) has withdrawn from Kiambaa by-elections in favour of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

The two parties, both associated with the hustler nation, were poised to clash in the mini-poll as they had both field their candidates.

Taking social media, on Monday May 24, Kuria said his party had resolved to withdraw from the race after holding extensive discussions with Deputy President William Ruto.

“Yesterday I held extensive discussions with my boss and friend William Ruto on this matter. To make my two colleagues happy and above all for the unity of the Hustler Nation, PEP will not be fielding a candidate for the Kiambaa by-election,” Kuria posted on Facebook.

The revamped UDA Party had unveiled John Njuguna as its flagbearer in the contest while PEP has settled on Raymond Kuria.

This led to a confrontation between Kuria and Mathira Member of Parliament Mathira Gachagua who in turn, took on each other over the mini poll.

Kuria extended his apologies to his candidate following the withdrawal and the people of Kiambaa whom he said would be disappointed by the resolution. Consequently, the Tanga Tanga allied lawmaker said they will now focus on a nationwide tour to meet candidates who will be vying for various seats in next year’s General Elections on the PEP ticket.
