Farmers from Mt Kenya have come out to issues an announcement that they will boycott tea picking come next week. The farmers have expressed their concern on what they term deaf ears from KTDA.

“From October 5, we are asking all farmers to stop picking their tea as it seems that is the only language KTDA can understand,” Moffat Kamau, the leader and a fellow farmer under Makomboki tea factory was quoted saying.

The farmers who want their regulations met, claim they have been receiving only sh4 per kilogram from their tea.

“KTDA has announced payments as low as Sh9 per kilogram in some factories while the highest-paid factories received about Sh30 yet we know it is capable of paying up to Sh50,” the farmer added. He urged the president to help intervene on their behalf claiming that once the strike begins it will not stop.
