On Friday, November 20, students from Multimedia University (MMU) in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, threw stones at motorists, blocked roads and lit fire on the roads during protests.

The students are said to have taken to the streets to demonstrate after their exams were postponed without prior notice from the university administration.

Commuters traveling from Ongata Rongai and Kiserian to town were forced to use Gataka Road. The students were dispersed by anti-riot police officers who lobbed teargas canisters at them in an effort to restore normal traffic.

In a memo, the student association mobilized students to protest, claiming that the school’s administration was making poor decisions.

“Therefore we call all generals and comrades for a mega demonstration tomorrow. Let us stand in solidarity as comrades and resolve this issue once and for all,” reads the memo.
