Edwin Chukwudiebere Okoye, a Nigerian man, was charged in court for stealing Ksh 31 million from his Nairobi girlfriend. On Monday, December 21, he appeared before the Kibera Magistrate’s court  in response to the charges.

Okoye was accused of plotting with others to scam Bella Bronislavia from 1 May 2017 to 14 May 2018.

The Nigerian suspect was charged with acquiring money by false pretence. The judge noted that Okoye had acquired the said money from the plaintiff in order to fund government tenders he had secured.

He was also accused of alleging that he had a proposal to bring new phones to the Kenyan market.

Bella argued that Okoye had convinced him to lend him the money because he did not have enough money for the budget, adding that he was going to give the money back with a commission.

The court heard that Bella had transferred Ksh 31 million to the Nigerian, but raised questions about the failure to refund the money as agreed.
