Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director-General Mohammed Badi has announced that soon  Nairobians may be needed to set aside one day of the month for clean-up activities.

“Each and every citizen of Nairobi County is supposed to dedicate one day a month in a clean up exercise of the area. This is going to come into law and it will be a must,” said the General.

Badi stated that law enforcement agencies such as the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) would inspect and ensure nobody was dumping garbage into the rivers.

NMS has restored 21 garbage collection trucks that had been disbanded for a while and has appointed NYS to supply trucks and machines that have been helping in the collection of garbage across the city.

NMS is developing material recovery facilities in all seventeen sub-counties that will help in the separation of various forms of waste.

Through this, there would be reduced open dumping of waste and therefore avoid environmental pollution, regulate illegal dumping and create jobs for young people.
