National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has began an impromptu crackdown countrywide targeting motorists.

In a statement shared social media on Tuesday May 4, the authority noted, the crackdown dubbed Road Safety Compliance has been mounted countrywide. The exercise was being carried by the authority in conjunction with the National Police Service (NPS).

Speaking to one of the local daily, a representative from NTSA confirmed the operation was on although it had been delayed in the morning due to the visit by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu.

The crackdown comes barely two weeks after the authority cracked down high-end cars with registration plates not issued by NTSA along Langata Road, Nairobi.

However, the earlier crackdown had been paused for a while as they review their findings in the initial week’s test run.

“We have taken a break for another week as we review the progress so far. This thing has come up and it is part of what we are following,”  a source revealed.
