Kenyans are expected to dig more into their pockets at the pump for the next month as the petrol and diesel prices are expected to increase again.

According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s latest review, it will increase the price of petrol by KSh 4.30, while the price of diesel will rise by KSh 2.30, effective Wednesday, April 14, at midnight.

Petrol prices in the capital Nairobi will thus retail at KSh 127.11 per litre, while diesel would be sold at KSh 109.96 per litre.

The regulatory body cited the increase in international crude oil prices to KSh 6,990 in April from the previous KSh 6,500 in March.

Taxes and levies have also pushed fuel prices high, with Petroleum Cabinet Secretary John Munyes saying there is nothing his ministry can do about the matter.

Taxes and levies are the biggest contributors to the prices. As global oil prices escalate we expect the prices in Kenya to increase,” Munyes said in March senate sitting.
