Three men have been arrested in Maralal, Samburu County with 13 kilograms of ivory worth a street value of approximately Ksh.1.5 million.

Samburu Central sub-county Police Commander Sylvester Rotich confirmed the incident, saying the three were arrested with four elephant tusks on Sunday evening in Kirisia.

The operation was carried out following a tip-off from members of the public.

According to the police boss, the four tusks indicated that the suspected poachers had allegedly killed two elephants.

He also stated that the trio is being held at the Maralal Police Station awaiting arraignment.

Earlier in February, a senior cop from the Rift Valley Regional Police headquarters was among three suspects who were arrested for ivory possession.

Senior Sergeant Charles Kandagor Kipkulei and two other suspects were arrested after police in Kabarnet received an anonymous tip-off.
