Detectives in Thika town have arrested a police officer accused of defrauding three M-Pesa agents ksh 124,000. He was taken into custody at Thika police station and is awaiting arraignment.
Isaiah Monda Ontita who is attached to Matasia police station in Ngong was arrested on Sunday August 2 after fellow officers were tipped off by the victims of the incident.
According to the police report, it’s alleged the police who is currently on interdiction had approached an M-pesa agent while dressed on full police uniform and asked the agent, Jane Wanjiru to deposit Ksh 58,000 to his account.
“It was reported by one Jane Wanjiru, an M-Pesa agent Maizama Con Bidii Shop that today a customer approached her in full jungle police fatigue uniform and requested Ksh 58,000 to his M-Pesa account,” read part of the police report.
It is said after receiving the confirmation message on his phone, he deleted it and claimed he had not seen it hence couldn’t pay the cash.
The police later moved to another M-Pesa agent and did the same trick where he defrauded the business owner Kshs 17,000.
Isaiah did not stop there, he further visited another agent where he acquired Ksh 49,000 with the same trick.
It is then that an alarm was raised upon realising they had been defrauded by the police officer.
