Police officers raided ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna’s hotel in Kisii County just minutes before the Bonchari by-elections began.

Sifuna spent the night in the hotel alongside ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire together with some of ODM candidate’s agents.

Sifuna claimed he escaped through a different exit after law enforcement officers forced their way into Ufanisi Resort.

“I sneaked through the back door before they trapped us inside the hotel. Bosire (ODM’s National Treasure Timothy Bosire) is still stranded inside,” Sifuna stated.

According to ODM’s social media pages, the lawyer and Bosire spent the night in the hotel’s executive wing while preparing to monitor the by-election.

Pavel Oimoke, the party’s candidate, is up against Jubilee’s Zebedeo Opore and UDA’s Teresa Bitutu.

Sifuna accused the government of allegedly rigging the election in favor of Jubilee’s Opore, an ally of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

“The government is attempting to intimidate us but we ask our voters to turn up and vote for our candidate. The voters are our voices and representatives,” Sifuna said.
