The United States’ president, Donald Trump has announced he will ban the video making app, Tik Tok from being used in US as from 1 August.
“As far as Tik Tok is Concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Trump said.
He said he would use emergency economic powers to issue the ban but was not clear what the nature of the order would be.
“Well, I have the authority,” he added.
The move was aimed at resolving policymaker’s concerns that the app maybe a national security risk in the country.
However, the US government is conducting security review of the app and table a policy recommendation to Trump.
This comes amid the popularity of the Tik Tok app both in the US and western countries hence becoming the first Chinese Social media platform to gain users outside its home country.
