The president has finally addressed the nation after the national-county coordinating summit was pushed from Friday to Monday July 27.

In his speech today the president has extended the curfew 9pm to 4am for 30 days more. He has also banned the sale of alcohol in restaurants as the closing hours of eateries are reviewed from 8 to 7pm. Closure of bars will continue in the next 30 days.

President Uhuru asked Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai to withdraw the licences of bars found flouting the laid directives and the withdrawal will be permanent.

The measures given are to be followed by all citizens regardless of their political status or social rank.

“The inspector-general of police that his officers spares no mheshimiwa no individual regardless of their social satus who is either out after curfew without being an essential worker or who flouts the health protocols that have been set out,” Uhuru said.

He also said the minister for Education will call  a meeting with stakeholders to find ways for the learning institutions to re-open.

He asked Kenyans to be realistic with themselves in terms of responsibilities towards curbing the virus.
