Senate House has suspended all physical meetings for one month as part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 which seems to be on the rise.

The Senate speaker, Keneth Lusaka told the Standard all committee meetings will be held virtually during the one month period.

“We had liaison committee meeting which has all the chairpersons of committees and agreed  that all meetings should be held virtually,” said Lusaka.

Barely a week, the National Assembly banned physical gatherings after a number of its staff and MPs tested positive for the Virus.

The Council Of Governors had written to Lusaka last week urging the senate to accept the the idea of virtual meetings to avoid exposure to the deadly virus.

“We call upon the speaker of the Senate to emulate the National Assembly, which has since dispensed with physical appearance…,” said  CoG chairman, Wycliffe Oparanya.
