Other than the recent killings of other African nationalities, South Africans have also targeted Somali traders whom they’ve butchered and looted their shops.
“This is unnecessary and unfortunate violence against Somali business communities to preserve peace and stability of Africa!” Said the Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon in open letter to South African President Jacob Zuma.
On May 30, one Somali Abdi Nasir Mahmoud Good was stoned to death by a mob.
A video of the violence posted on YouTube shows Good, lying in the middle of the street while a mob hurls stones and boulders at him as vehicles pass by.
According to local media, the 25-year-old was also stabbed as he tried to protect his shop from looters.
Somalia’s President Sheik Mohammed, called on Mr Zuma to “act immediately” to arrest the perpetrators of the act.
Residents in a township near Johannesburg rioted against the Somali community last week.
The unrest in Diepsloot township came after a Somali shop owner allegedly shot dead two Zimbabweans.
Somali shop owners in Port Elizabeth have also been targeted.
Police have arrested dozens of people and the government in Pretoria has condemned the attacks.
