The State House staff offered a helping hand to Juja and Kiambu County residents, by rebuilding a bridge that had deteriorated for years.

The unsafe bridge has been abandoned for more than 30 years. It has always been in a poor condition since it has never been repaired over the years.

“We raised money together with State House staff for the construction of the bridge. I have been working closely with other government officials on the project. The staff and officials have been putting up houses in the area which is why I asked them to develop the area by constructing a bridge,” One of the residents said.

The residents were forced to use alternative routes which are 18 kilometers longer during the long rains in April and May.

People seeking medical attention had a hard time going to hospitals. Women seeking maternity services were forced to deliver at home, with the ruined bridge being inaccessible.

Students in the area were also affected by the bridge as they struggle to attend school.

“Getting to the hospital was a huge challenge, I had a tough time taking my father to the hospital. We used to carry him on our backs. When it rains the bridge is inaccessible with many roads around the area also being hard to access,” said a woman from the area.
