A student hanged himself after being locked up in one of the cells at Kilibwoni Police Station.
Meshach Kiprop committed suicide after using a piece of cloth to make a rope that he used to hang himself from the window of the cell.
The Ndubeneti Secondary School student was arrested after threatening to kill one of the family members after he accused them of neglecting him.
David Kirui, Nandi County Deputy Police Commander, revealed that Kiprop had threatened to kill his sister Mercy Chebet. Residents of Kilibwoni alleged that the 19-year-old is suspected to be a drug addict.
The body of the student was transferred to the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital mortuary with an autopsy to be conducted later. Police have begun investigations into the incident to determine what led the student to take his own life.
