Tanzania has recorded the highest rise in Coronavirus cases so far in East Africa.

On Monday, the country announced that it had recorded a total 84 new cases bringing its total to 254 from 147. At the same time, a total of 10 have so far lost their lives.

Making the announcement through a statement, the country’s Health minister Ummy Mwalimu stated that the number emanated from people tested between April 18 and 20.

In terms of distribution among the different regions, 16 came from the Zanzibar while the rest were from mainland.

Out of all cases confirmed, the patients are in a stable condition except 4 who are in a critical condition.

Tanzania has continued to witnessed a high increase in cases having reported an additional 53 of them on Friday. This despite the government’s insistence on not banning public gatherings which could be the reason for the sudden rise.

Opposition leaders in Tanzania are criticizing the government’s response to the coronavirus, after President John Magufuli said he would never close down places of worship.

At a Sunday service, Magufuli said the virus is “satanic” and therefore cannot thrive in churches.
