On Wednesday, October 21, a Nairobi court released a warrant for the arrest of the Kilifi Governor, Amason Kingi.

The Governor was issued with the warrant of arrest after his failure to appear in court in a case involving four men who are claimed to have allegedly attempted to extort him Ksh30 Million.

The four suspects Noah Akala Aduwo, Abdul Aziz Alim, George Ngugi and Moses Musee Maluki, who denied the charges presented against them in court, are Mombasa traders, who allegedly posed as detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to extort county government officials.

Early this year in May, EACC reported that it was investigating Kingi ‘s acquisition  of irregularities in the setting up of the Covid-19 medical complex in Kilifi County.

The case involving the four suspects, was to be heard on October 21, but the failure of Governor Kingi as well as other witnesses to appear in court deterred the progress of the case.
