Mtindwa demolished

More than 500 business have been demolished at Mtindwa along the railway line. This is a move by the government to rehabilitate the meter-gauge railway.

The businesses were demolished after being said they were close to the railway line. They had been notified to move 30 metres away from the railway line.

Some of the businessmen and women claim they were handed a two-day notice while  others claimed otherwise.

The traders claim the demolitions started at around 11 pm on Monday, August 24 which is past curfew hours, giving them no chance to save the goods.

The businessmen and women suspect the demolitions were carried out by Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in conjunction with Kenya Railways.
