Manchester City Are Out Of The Champions League

Manchester City under Pep Guardiola were bundled of the Champions League after suffering a defeat of 3-1 against French outfit Lyon.

Lyon are considered underdogs and it seems they delivering and proving wrong their doubters.

Maxwell Cornet scored the first goal for Lyon in the 24th minute of the match which was the difference till halftime.

Kevin Debruyne got an equalizer in the 69th minute putting them on level once again. Pep is however under criticism for putting Debruyne as a winger and not his preferred position, midfielder.

Rahim sterling wasted a clear chance that would have placed Man city in a preferable position. Mousa Dembele came in on the 75th minute, replacing Memphis Depay and indeed he was Lyon’s missing savior.

Dembele’s brace sealed Lyon’s triumph which confirmed their position in the Champions League semifinal which they will be facing Bayern Munich who thrashed Barcelona 8-2.

Since the restart of Champions League competition, the matches have been played on a knockout formula that no there is no second leg for redemption.

Manchester City’s elimination sees them missing the 15M pond bonus promised by the club if they won the silverware.
