The Kenya National Union of Nurses has released a 7-day strike notice over the revenue sharing stalemate.

The union swore its members will not be in office if the senate will not have settled the stalemate within 7 days citing most counties have not paid health workers for the last 3 months.

“We warn the government that we together with all health workers and other county public servants, we will bring this country to its knees on Monday 10th if these issues are not addressed with urgency that they deserve and specifically the issue of the the salary arrears for the last three months.

Our nurses and doctors are being infected by this virus and they are not even able to pay their rent or buy food because their salaries are being delayed due to some selfishness . We will not put our lives at risks if our dignity and respect is not observed,” said KNUN Secretary-General Seth Panyako.

This comes when the country is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases and over 600 health workers reported to be infected.

Panyako further asked the Senate not to allow any reduction of County Revenue Allocation stating it might lead to some workers being laid off.

On Tuesday the Senate will sit for the sixth time to try and debate the way forward after it was shot down last week.
