A patient has died at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) parking lot in the middle of a service paralysis caused by hospital staff strike.
All of the support staff, doctors, and nurses all went on strike.
In protest of the failure of the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to honor a Ksh301 million salary increase passed by the National Assembly and approved by the Treasury in 2012, more than 4000 staff members at KNH on Monday September 28 downed their tools.
Patients at the hospital were forced to seek alternative medical attention at the neighbouring hospitals after all the doctors who were supposed to serve them went on strike.
“What we want is to see SRC give that letter, urging Kenyatta National Hospital to effect payment of that money to all affected employees and thereafter the strike will be called off,” Seth Panyako, the Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary-General said.
