Thousands Of Families To Be Evicted From Land In Uasin Gishu County

EVICTION

Thousands of residents in Uasin Gishu County are set to be evicted from a 606-acre piece of land.

This is after the expiry of a 14-day notice issued by the Eldoret High Court that ruled that over 5,000 people have been occupying the land illegally.

Among the families affected by the eviction is Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat.

The notice shocked the residents who argued that they had title deeds and had the right to stay in the land.

The residents had initially taken to the streets to protest the land demarcation by surveyors on November 30. They argued that they had lived in the land for decades and asked the court to hear their plea.

The land dispute, which initially involved 909 acres, arose from two locals who sought for ownership of the land.
