Journalist Yassin Juma still Detained in Ethiopia Despite Court Order to be Released

Yassin Juma is still in detention of Ethiopian authorities despite the court giving an order for his release on bail a week ago.

The Kenyan Journalist was arrested among other Ethiopians and there have been moves from press freedom groups requesting their release.

The journalists was allegedly charged with ethnic incitement to promote violence and plotting to kill senior Ethiopian officials.

Yassin Juma has been held in Ethiopian since early July and his quest for release has been futile.

Lawyer Tuli Bayisa noted the police won’t release the journalist even after paying bail.

“They are telling her (the judge) first it’s the federal police that has been investigating them, and now the Addis Ababa police commission wants to investigate the matter once again, they said,” said Bayisa.

Yassin and the rest of eleven suspects are illegally detained by the police officers, this is not the first time Ethiopian police have ignored court orders to release detained journalists.
