Nairobi motorists will have to pay high prices in order to access the Nairobi Expressway, which was gazetted as a toll road by Transport CS James Macharia.

On Saturday, January 2, a report by The Standard indicated that the toll per vehicle would be charged on a weight basis.

Heavy trucks with less than four axles will pay Ksh 1,240, while those with more than four axles will be expected to pay Ksh 1,798 inclusive of VAT.

It was indicated that Saloon cars (with two axles) are expected to footup to Ksh310 per trip, while light vehicles with two axles and a raised bonnet are expected to pay Ksh465.

Tuktuks and Motorcycles will not be allowed to use the 27Km-stretch that is expected to begin operations in June 2022.

The report also revealed that the road being constructed and financed by China Road and Bridge Corporation is expected to raise Ksh2 billion by 2023.
