It was a deadly Fourth of July weekend across the US. Here’s a roundup of fatal accidents, injuries, shootings and other items related to the American  holiday.

CALAIS, Maine — A young man who was drinking and celebrating the Fourth of July tried to launch a firework off the top of his head, fatally injuring himself, authorities said Sunday.

Calais, placed a fireworks mortar tube on his head and set it off.

The firework exploded, killing Staples instantly.His death is the first fireworks fatality in Maine since the state legalized fireworks on Jan. 1, 2012, authorities said.

Fight over American flag leaves Colorado man in hospital

FORT COLLINS — Police say that a fight over proper American flag etiquette prompted a scuffle that left a man facing life-threatening injuries.

Someone punched 25-year-old Todd Hesser in the face, causing him to fall and hit the concrete.

Hesser was in critical condition Saturday night.

Texas man injures hand while lighting fireworks

DALLAS — A 20-year-old Collin County man has blown off part of his hand while lighting fireworks.

Fire officials in Josephine, northeast of downtown Dallas, responded, and the victim was airlifted to Parkland Hospital.

Montana man killed in fireworks accident

BILLINGS, Mont. — A 32-year-old man has died in a fireworks accident at a Billings residence.

Child waiting for fireworks show in Tennessee struck by bullet

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a 9-year-old girl was struck by a bullet in downtown Nashville  while waiting for a fireworks show to begin.

Ella Smith was with her family Saturday night when she felt a pain in her back. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and treated for a small caliber wound. The injury was not critical.

Officials say it’s possible the bullet came from a weapon randomly fired into the sky.

New Hampshire officials say fireworks ignited house fire

Fire officials in Nashua, New Hampshire, say fireworks set fire to the roof of a home there early Sunday morning.

Nashua Deputy Fire Chief George Walker says firefighters were called to a house on East Dunstable Road at about 12: 30 a.m. Sunday for a roof fire.

He said all residents were evacuated safely and there were no injuries.
