Arsenal have confirmed that head coach Mikel Arteta has tested positive for corona virus.
Following Arsenal’s announcement on Thursday night, the Premier League has confirmed it will convene an emergency meeting with top-flight clubs on Friday morning regarding fixtures.
The rest of the English football season may now never happen after it was suspended from today for at least three weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for the infection.
The Premier League, the Championship, League One, League Two, FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship have all halted competitive action immediately – along with the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Arsenal’s season has been plunged into serious doubt after the entire first-team squad was placed into self-isolation following Mikel Arteta’s positive results.
This is really disappointing,” said Spaniard Arteta, 37.
“I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed.”
