All field officers on leave from the Ministry of Education were recalled to assist in the planning of the re-opening of schools on 4 January 2021.

The Directive was released by Education PS Belio Kipsang on Thursday, 24 December, in the run-up to the reopening deadline set by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The government is set to provide face masks, soaps and sanitizers to learners, a development that will come as a relief to parents.

The Government ordered the heads of primary and secondary schools to admit students from private institutions in January 2021.

Many private schools were closed down as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The government struggled to shield these institutions from the impact of the virus by opting to help public schools and teachers enrolled under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Parents who had children in private schools have been seeking admission slots in public schools. Head Teachers lamented that the exercise would lead to congestion in classrooms.
