Gor Mahia football club fans have expressed their displeasure with the club’s move to terminate the services of coach Frank Nuttall.
Through their twitter posts, the fans pointed out that sacking Nuttal for a big misttep for the 14-time Kenya Premier League champions ahead of their Super Cup match against Bandari to be played in Mombasa on Saturday and the new season which begins on February 13.
In a letter to Newsrooms Thursday evening, Nuttall stated that Kogalo had sacked him after he refused a 50 per cent reduction of his salary.
He noted that he had received a letter from the club, through his lawyer Gradus Oluoch, confirming the termination of his contact which was set to expire on January 2017.
“The reason for terminating my contract is because the Executive Committee of Gor Mahia wanted to reduce my salary by 50% whereas my contract clearly provided for a 10% increase from January 1, 2016,” read the statement in part.
It is not clear when or whether Gor Mahia, who recently landed a multi-million deal with betting firm Sportpesa, will compensate Nuttall for the terminated contract, an issue that has landed their rivals AFC Leopards in financial strain as the grapple with the burden of paying Pieter De Jong for premature termination of contract.
