A 17-year-old girl in Tana River angry at the dismissal by elders of a defilement case against her stepfather poisoned water and fled.

Her mother and stepfather who narrowly escaped death are said to have drank poisoned water in the house.

The suspect took the matter into her own hands after discovering her mother had sided with her stepfather in defilement case she had petitioned.

According to the girl’s uncle, the 17-year-old had accused her stepfather for continuously defiling her from 13 year old age and threatening her with the death if she ever revealed.

The uncle also revealed there was a point the girl fled her home to live with him but never said why she had ran away.

“She was always quite and wanted to sit alone most of the times. She rarely spoke with her cousins and they never asked her about her personal issues, ” said the uncle.

“It was difficult for us to prove rape in this case. We sought traditional expertise but it failed to prove rape. We went for hospital expertise but it could not prove any rape too,” elders ruled out the petition.

This angered the girl as she felt betrayed by her own mother and elders resulting to her poisoning her parents and escaping.

It was discovered in the evening when things turned out sour as they began feeling unwell. The woman was found groaning on the ground while the man had already collapsed.

The two who were found by an elder, who had gone to check on them were administered with first aid before being rushed to a private hospital.

They have began a search on the lady who has since not been seen.
